Titel
A strategy for landmine detection and recognition using simulated GPR responses
Abstract
In this paper the potential of using modeled GPR responses for buried landmine recognition is investigated. We demonstrate that accurately simulated object signatures may be successfully employed as reference wavelets for clutter suppression and target classification. This task is accomplished by incorporating an additional filtering step based on a similarity condition into an energy based detection procedure. In particular, the application of the proposed method to experimental data yields a clear improvement in the detection sensitivity for those mines which are most difficult to detect through backscattered energy considerations alone. This strategy may help to reduce the false alarm and speed up the clearance labors.
