Titel
Formulation and production of new energetic materials
Abstract
EDA Program arrangement No B-0585-GEM-BC FPNEM (Formulation and Production of New Energetic Materials) is a European effort covering synthesis, scale-up, formulation and characterization of energetic materials. The project is divided into two major groups with different focuses: 1) Processing and development of polymeric systems for PBXs and rocket motors, is studied by the German, Italian, Norwegian and Portuguese contributing members. The target of this group is the development of a new polymeric system with better properties than those used today e.g. HTPB and GAP. The new polymeric systems are evaluated for use both in applications as rocket propellants and warheads. The group does also focus on the development of processing technologies for new energetic materials e.g. micro extrusion. 2) Development of new melt cast matrices is studied by the Czech, French and Swedish contributing members. The target of this area is the development of a new melt cast matrix with better properties than TNT, concerning in particular the performance and sensitivity. A desirable target would be a low sensitivity IM-compliant Comp-B replacement.
