Abstract
Modern geo-penetrators in the high velocity regime experience severe decelerations during impact onto the target. Especially the PBX payload experiences dynamical loading conditions with high pressures and high strain rates in the material. Therefore the necessity exists for a better understanding of the material behaviour under these loading conditions. This concerns the material testing as well as the material models that must be derived for numerical simulations of these impact phenomena. In this work we present a consistent experimental method to characterize the IHE material over the complete loading range. The test procedure includes the Split-Hopkinson-Pressure-Bar SHPB and a quasi-static press for confined and unconfined test conditions. The material description is based on the SCRAM model that takes into account viscoelasticity and damage of the material. The experiments are used to derive a complete material data set for the presented material model.
