Titel
Short-time dynamics in laser material processing
Abstract
Material processings with laser radiation as cutting, welding, and drilling are established industrial processes. Their main advantages compared to conventional methods are the flexibility, precision, and speed. The quality of processing results is determined mainly by the transient dynamic of the process. An application of asymptotic and spectral methods to the solution of the free boundary problem modelling the laser drilling of metals is presented. In the frame of this approach we obtain detailed information on the time and length scales involved. The approach can also be applied to study the transient dynamics of cutting and welding.
