Titel
A Concept for an Adaptive Process Management in a Distributed Product Development Environment
Abstract
In today's global industrial product development processes, the exchange and sharing of product information is common practice. The information on the development process itself, however, is still exchanged using ad-hoc communication. Process information is essential because it establishes the control flow within the development process. In a distributed development environment, which includes product manufacturers, component and OEM suppliers, a dedicated and monitored process management becomes more and more important. In addition the process management must be flexible and adaptive. The output of an activity of an OEM supplier, for example, may affect the development process, so that it must be altered to reflect a new situation. In this paper a concept for an adaptive process management in a distributed product development environment is described. Elements of process modelling, project management and workflow management are combined to a new and flexible approach. The principles of the distributed adaptive process management are described. Aspects of the realisation as a software system are discussed, and a prototypical implementation is presented.
