The probe has a set of ultrasonic transducer segments controlled individually or in groups by a phased-array-technique for emitting ultrasonic plate waves with a predefinable propagation direction in a test body to be tested. Each transducer segment comprises two segment parts (WS1, WS2). The segment parts are arranged along a common plane such that ultrasonic plate wave fields (2') emitted by the segments mutually overlap and have a main propagation direction intersecting in an acute angle (alpha) in the plane, where the segments are designed as electromagnetic ultrasonic transducers. An independent claim is also included for a method for nondestructive testing of a test body with ultrasonic plate waves.
