A step-by-step method for the development of company-specific solutions
Abstract
Cross-company innovation projects have gained a lot of importance in the last decades. This is especially true for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SME), which depend to a large degree on their ability to successfully cooperate with customers, suppliers and partners. Cross-company innovation projects entail various risks for all parties involved, as the development of new products and services depends on the sharing of sensitive information such as company-specific know-how. Trust is thus a critical ingredient of these projects. However, only a few companies have so far implemented specific concepts for handling trustrelated issues. The idea of the German research project VERMIKO is to develop a toolbox for enhancing trust in cross-company innovation projects. The toolbox will include various methods and tools aimed at raising awareness on the topic, such as a face-to-face seminar, a web-based training and a serious game. They will be complemented by tools for hands-on support before, during and after innovation projects, e.g. checklists and templates. The method described in this paper has been developed by one of the project's research partners, the University of Stuttgart, and two industrial application partners, Protech - a supplier to the automotive industry- and Tellur - a provider of ICT solutions.
