A non-intrusive and simple to use method to determine the burning rate of propellants, fragile gas generators, liquid or bulk materials in tubes is introduced. A minimum preparation expense is necessary. Via a high-speed CCD-camera or an ordinary DV-camcorder the combustion process of a strand burner is digitised and automatically analysed. A good agreement with Crawford measurements is found. The method allows controlling the quality of the high precision burning rate measurements during each run.
