Future application fields of acoustic resonance analysis in non-destructive testing
Abstract
This work focuses on the application of acoustic resonance analysis as an innovative non-destructive testing (ndt) solution allowing not only almost instantaneous fault detection but furthermore quantitative assessment of mechanical properties and material values. Tubular test specimens with two different residual stress levels obtained by an autofrettage process were tested by acoustic resonance analysis which was qualified with 3D-laservibrometry. The former non-destructive testing method allowed the discrimination between the different residual stress levels. Additionally, it was shown that acoustic resonance analysis is strongly sensitive to surface films, offering potential applications for characterization of coatings and surface contaminations.
