Titel
Improving mechanical performance of automotive underbody shield with unidirectional tapes in compression-molded direct-long fiber thermoplastics (D-LFT)
Abstract
As automakers scramble to meet tough new emissions and fuel economy standards globally without sacrificing safety, cost, aesthetics, and performance, interest in composite materials and processes is at an all-time high. Fortunately, there are many ways that composites can help automakers meet their goals. A consortium of companies decided to investigate new options to improve the mechanical performance vs. weight and cost for direct-long-fiber thermoplastic (D-LFT) composites combined with semifinished fabrics and laminates made with unidirectional glass tapes. Results of the study are described here.
