Abstract
The algorithms for continuous electronically tracking for singleuser 3D displays was successfully extended to be applicable also for multiview and lightfield 3D displays with more than 5 views. We enabled these displays to render also stereo content and steer it towards a tracked user's eyes. We have combined the extraction and multiplexing of sub-pixels of the left or right image with shifting the brightness focus controlled by the observer's eye position. Thereby we solved different challenges of autostereoscopic presentation. The observer is able to watch typical content made for glasses-based output autostereoscopicly while enjoying the convenience of free head movement. The sweet spot of autostereoscopic 3D displays can be adapted to the individual intraocular distance. The eye tracking allows us additionally to simulate dynamic perspective for single user 3D displays modes and even to surpass the limited motion parallax offered by multiview displays. We just use thetracking signal to control the position of the virtual scene cameras to provide individual perspectives. The same display can be utilized as a multiview display for several users and as single user display that shows stereoscopic content with depth galore at a close viewing distance. This combination enables to realize flat multi-functional all-in-one displays and opens up the path towards a new display class.
