Titel
A new strategy for design orientated digitising to integrate conceptual design into the design engineering
Abstract
The described 3-D measuring system enables an adapted digitising strategy: acquirement of characterising elements - generating a surface topology - surface description. The procedure works on light contours i.e. transition areas between light and shadow in 2-D images. These light contours assign feature lines to surface characteristics which occur under varying lighting. The processing of colour and texture data can be integrated because of the given connection of colour and texture data with 3-D surface coordinates. Thus, the innovation of the strategy is to be seen in the co-existence and simultaneously processing of 2-D and 3-D data which allows the context-sensitive acquirement of information in physical models. The procedure will provide fast and suitable tools for the verification and development of physical and virtual shape models to the conceptual designer, the design engineer and the mould maker. It also opens new ways of communication within the product development.
