Abstract
DAMAGE LIMITATION. Drilling of reinforced and unreinforced thermoplastics generates high mould temperatures, which can melt and thermally damage the material around the edge of the drill hole. The depth of the damaged areas is directly proportional to the mould temperature and the thermal-penetration coefficient of the material. Low cutting speeds and high feed rates are beneficial.
