Smothering by air reduction is one of the oldest methods to extinguish a dangerous fire. During this process the flame react to the reduced air supply by changing its characteristic periodic flame structure . Recent non-intrusive highspeed measuring methods of the flame emission allow to characterise the dynamic evolution of flame shape, temperature, radiation and species from different locations of the flame. This leads to a better understanding and improvement of the extinguishing process.
