A vendor's business model perspective
Abstract
Today the actively design new business models, no matter via textual descriptions or visually supported, detailed meta-models exist. Beside the current theoretical models and methodologies to design a business model, an oppressive problem is the absence of empirical studies to support specific design-decisions during business model design. This contribution describes selected key-factors for the design of business models related to Internet services from a vendor's point of view. The paper provides results from a survey at 114 German IT-vendors regarding business strategic questions and combines them with the already introduced »[moby] Business Model Ontology«. Finally an improved configurable business model ontology is derived and a general method to design a new business model step by step is proposed.
