Abstract
A wearable and ultra low-power wireless system is proposed for remote monitoring of physiological parameters. The developed system monitors the electrocardiogram (ECG), activity and temperature, transmitting the signals to a remote base station via a wireless link, and also allows for wireless battery recharging. An acquisition module was designed solely with low power and small form factor electronic components. The acquisition module also incorporates flexible and dry ECG electrodes and is assembled on a flexible substrate to allow wearability. The Toumaz Sensium system-on-chip (SoC) is used as the core of the acquisition module. An ultra low power ECG amplifier front-end was designed for integration with the acquisition module, achieving 130 W of power consumption and a minimum CMRR of about 80 dB. The total power consumption of the system is expected to be between 1 and 2 mW, providing a lifetime of up to 6 days on a 150 mAh Lithium-ion battery.
