Titel
Quality of service in multi-service in-house communications systems
Abstract
The article discusses the evolution of multimedia in-house communications systems, using either analogue or ISDN connections. It illustrates the connections to a home gateway, and refers to a distributed domestic multi-service central gateway. It also examines various services for domestic use, including telephony and ISDN, video communications and monitoring, high bit-rate Internet communications, linking to an access network and home automation/maintenance. Specifically, it discusses door communications with a microphone and camera. The problems of linking a domestic multi-service network to the public switched network are considered. It concludes with a description of a "high technology house". Attention is paid to a quality of service backbone, and voice-over-Internet (VoIP) facilities are described.
