Titel
An experimental access to the coating influence on multicrystalline silicon materials
Abstract
In this paper we present first results of crystallization experiments on the interaction between the crucible system for direct solidification and two different qualities of silicon feedstock solar grade silicon (SoG-Si) and upgraded metallurgical silicon (UMG-Si). First wetting experiments using an optically heated furnace were performed. They showed a slightly higher contact angle for SoG-Si in comparison to UMG-Si of 5N quality. Subsequently 80 kg silicon of UMG-Si and SoG-Si were crystallized in an industrial furnace. For both, wetting and crystallization experiments, both materials did not stick to the crucible. The block crystallized material was further analyzed for grain size and resistivity depending on the distance to the crucible wall. Resistivity distribution within the blocks did not show any significant differences between UMG-Si and SoG-Si in the region near the crucible. However the crystallization of UMG-Si leads to an increase of twins near the crucible.
