Impact of cumulative WEC power on conventional generating systems
Abstract
With increasing wind power penetration levels in many European regions, questions regarding the resulting impact on the conventional generation systems is gaining importance. In Germany, utilities in northern coastal states, as well as those in a variety of inland regions, are already facing an installed wind capacity in the range of their minimum loads. With even more and higher rated WEC installations to come in the near future, power producers require information regarding future reserve power demands and power plant scheduling, while power distributors need to optimise their power demand schedules. The paper presents statistical evaluations of the characteristics of large-scale wind power production in Germany.
