Abstract
The contamination of solar collectors by airborne dust is known as a very important problem for solar energy generation. Dust deposition on the surfaces of photovoltaic panels leads to degradation of their optical properties with corresponding losses of efficiency and resulting negative economic. Because of the general scarcity of water in desert and semi-desert zones, which are the best for solar power production, this commodity should not be wasted for cleaning purpose. A new prototype device, which can remove dust from the surface of a PV-module by means of electric fields, has been developed and tested in the field. Efficiency of dust removal better than 90 % was demonstrated. The new method allows a significant yield increase of a PV-system especially for arid or semi-arid regions.
