Abstract
The TRUMPF Sachsen GmbH has developed in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology (IWU), the cross beam of a laser cutting system in composite construction. Previously optimized steel variants could not achieve the required dynamic growth with consistently high cutting quality. The development of a CFRP cross-bar led to a halving of the mass at the same time doubling the stiffness. These results were verified by structural analysis of several prototypes. Furthermore, were performed by the IWU studies on automation of the joining process and the implementation of cost saving potentials.
