Abstract
A circuit for retiming a 1.12 Gbit/s NRZ signal in an optical transmission system is described. Retiming in the repeater is accomplished by sampling the NRZ signal with a 1.12 GHz clock signal. The resulting RZ signals are fed to a Schmitt trigger which acts as an RS flip-flop, where the RZ signals are converted back to NRZ signals.
