Titel
Analysis and design of a planar leaky-wave antenna for mobile satellite communications based on a strongly truncated periodic structure
Abstract
In this paper, the design of a planar leaky-wave antenna is presented operating from 2.17 GHz to 2.20 GHz and measuring 5.5 mm in height. The antenna is based on a two-dimensional, periodically structured surface that is strongly truncated. To excite the leaky mode of the structure, two crossed dipoles are used centered closely above the surface. For circular polarisation, the antenna displays a conical radiation pattern and is therefore suited for mobile satellite communications. The design of the antenna is based on the investigation of the radiation characteristics of truncated leaky-wave structures. For the analysis, a physical optics approximation is used that is extended by a correction term in order to account for the influence of edge effects.
