Titel
A vertical SODAR for the indirect acoustic sounding of the planetary boundary layer
Abstract
Indirect measurements of meteorological data by acoustic radar (SODAR) have been gaining more and more importance. A mono-static vertical SODAR, developed at the Heinrich Hertz Institute of the GDR Academy of Sciences, is described. It makes possible the investigation of the boundary layer up to altitudes of more than 800 m. The intensity of the backscattered signal is recorded as a function of time and altitude in order to obtain information about the structure of the planetary boundary layer.
