Titel
Auto-stereoscopic 3DTV using the lens raster process
Abstract
Reviews the status of stereoscopic television which can be observed without special spectacles. Rasters of miniature lenses are employed on a quasi-flat screen, based on parallax panorama stereograms. These use cylindrical lens raster foils which are photographically printed with the stereograms on the rear, in order to display laterally recorded stereo photographs. It is reported that 2.5 meter diameter stereo colour pictures have been projected, using six projectors. Video recordings were produced and the problem of stereo 'flipping' is discussed. The availability of a compact nine-channel mono CCD recording unit and video projector is announced. Finally, the need for a multichannel projector, and the development of back-projection systems with LCD light modulators are considered.
