Abstract
Unrepeatered 40 Gbit/s RZ single channel transmission over 150 km of standard singlemode fibre at 1.55 mu m is reported using passive dispersion compensation. The authors investigate the influence of signal power, the compensation scheme, and the word length. Error-free transmission (BER=10-9) is achieved with a receiver sensitivity of -27 dBm. Post-compensation allows for higher input powers and therefore for a higher system margin.
