Optimization of the material supply chain for BTL (biomass-to-liquid) plants
Abstract
As the energy demand and the crude oil prices increase continuously these years, the future supply with a renewable resource has become a great challenge to the whole world. Bioenergy provides the possibility to generate environment-friendly renewable energy from biomass. BTL fuel is a kind of bioenergy that is described in this paper. Germany takes leading position in the research and production of BTL fuels. A plant ist successully running in Freiberg. In the coming years, experts expect more BTL plants to be built in Germany. It is important to choose the optimal locations for BTL plants in the country and to search for a optimal raw material supply chain network for the BTL plants. This is the goal of this master thesis. Although there are various factors that can influence the decision, this paper is focused on logistic point and based on site optimization problem. So the aim is to know, where the BTL plants should be built and how to configure the raw material supply chains for these plants, so that the transportation costs can be minimized in the whole system. The goal of this thesis is to have an insight of the current BTL production in Germany; to optimize the BTL supply chain through site optimization methods in order to achieve a minimal transportation cost; and to analyze different transport medai of BTL raw material from logistic side.
