This paper introduces in a first step the capability and availability of reactive power supply by PV inverters. In a second step this potential is studied concerning its economic usability. This is done by a proposed approach of allocating additional costs to reactive power supply and assessing the benefits for network operation. Based on cost-benefit-analyses the paper presents an economic potential of using reactive power from PV inverters for distribution network operation.
