Titel
A new tool for the maintenance engineer
Abstract
The work of maintenance engineers has completely changed due to highly automated and complex production systems. Maintenance engineers nowadays need a lot of extra information for their work, such as engineering standards, environmental regulations and operating instructions. Faced to this development the maintenance service provider ThyssenKrupp Xervon GmbH and the Chair of Factory Organization at the Technical University of Dortmund started a research project in 2004 to develop a new tool to assist and connect the users in order to make their work more efficient. The result is the "Knowledge Platform Maintenance", a web-based application, which provides necessary information and motivates users to communicate. It is location-independent, which is very important for users working directly at the production sites.
