Abstract

Production networks in the manufacturing sector. It is precisely small and medium enterprises that obtain chances for future success on the market through intra-business collaboration in cooperative production link-ups or in production networks. In the core areas of the manufacturing cestors, half of businesses are already participating in cooperative production link-ups to jointly develop system products or to equalise capacity. Businesses that participate in networks with several partners, however, are few. Approaches for virtual factories in which the cooperative link-up is supported by an appropriate IT network are even more rare. This paper provides representative information on the spread and benefit of cooperative production link-ups and, in particular, examines the economic potentials of networks for companies.
