Abstract
Scientists at Fraunhofer IESE [IESE09] perform research in engineering methods for future information systems. Concrete and real-world solutions are needed to evaluate these methods better. Consequently, the point-of-sale system CoCoME [CoCo09] was selected for performing research on workflow-based work. CoCoME is an existing trading system that was reused as basis of this demonstrator. The sale workflow of this system is an example of a model that is easy to understand for everybody. For this reason, the system is ideally suited for the evaluation of the demonstrator. Therefore, the goal was to build a new demonstrator on the CoCoME system. The first step was to reverse-engineer the existing system to evaluate whether the architecture fulfills all requirements for the system to be used as the basis of the demonstrator and for future research. The demonstrator is made up of three parts: documentation of the requirements and architecture with evaluation, demonstration scenarios, and demonstration prototype. The new prototype will serve as a demonstrator in the Virtual Office of the Future [VOF09] laboratory - a competence center for information systems. In the VOF laboratory, the methods and concepts developed in the research area are implemented and validated, and product prototypes are generated. This thesis will later on be used by other scientists as a basis for their work.
