ESRIF - European Security Research and Innovation Forum: Strategic Research Planning on European Level
Abstract
The European Security Research and Innovation Forum (ESRIF), established by the European Commission in 2007, shall advise the Commission on how to further shape the 7th framework programme and on the elaboration of a long-term strategic security research agenda. Fraunhofer INT supports, beside being active in other working groups, the German chairman of ESRIF WG 4 "crisis management". The main tasks of ESRIF for developing a long-term research agenda are (i) to improve the dialogue between all stakeholders in the area of innovation and security research, (ii) to foster innovative ideas and to improve the global competitiveness of European industries and, (iii) to analyse the future need for security capabilities taking into account current and already foreseeable future threats. Our interests in this regard are related to a more detailed consideration and analysis of potential similarities and synergies between strategic security research planning and the respective procedural methods in the defence sector. Transferring different perspectives between both sectors goes along with the proceeding convergence of security and defence research at European level.
