Contactless information interchange is performed more and more using transponder systems. The necessities of a modern design process result in a need of models of the transponders system for circuit and system simulators. These models have to represent the behaviour and especially the coaction of transmitter and receiver coils in sufficient accuracy. The modeling process of transponders used in car immobilizers and chip card systems are presented in this paper. These transponders are developed and manufactured by the Business Center Automotive & Control of TEMIC Semiconductor GmbH which is the world leading manufacturer of transponder systems. The models base on ANSYS simulations of different coil configurations. Simulation results are used in simplified system models which are implemented for the system simulator ELDO using the hardware description language HDLA. The paper deals with the FEM modeling process, post-processing of the ANSYS results and the implementation of the HDLA models.
