A variety of driver assistance and information-systems, and even systems that monitor driver behaviour, are on the market or will come to the market soon. Such systems may have an adverse effect on driving behaviour, comfort and safety if they overload the driver with information, especially in critical situations. The solution is to integrate the systems. This should be done, at the systems level as well as in the HMI, by integrating the functionalities of different systems and prioritising their output. The EU funded IN-ARTE project developed a general architecture for systems integration, and successfully tested the combination of a navigation system with enhanced map data, a front obstacle radar and a lane recognition system. The approach can be used in the future for the integration of other functions as well.
