Abstract
To maintain their competitiveness, manufacturers of electronic components and packages must face the changing demands with regard to special customer wishes, short delivery times, punctuality and increased demands on quality. These ever increasing demands will, amongst others, be satisfied through the continuous extension and introduction of new production technologies and techniques. Here, examinations have already shown that pure automation of package production will not sustainably guarantee a competitive and economic production because only an interplay between technological and organisational factors can lead to high flexibility and economic viability. To establish influencing technological and economic factors and to derive from them measures for an increased effectiveness of overall systems, a questionnaire was developed and sent to the companies. Finally, data from the questionnaires and from practical examinations of SMT production and experiences of the Fraunhofer IFF in the field of organisation were used to draw conclusions with regard to the design of modern SMT production lines.
