Abstract
One part of the experimental work done in the course of the qualification of a "Fitness for Service" assessment of electron beam welded ARIANE 5 booster cases was the investigation of the strength, deformation and toughness properties of individual material zones present in the weld with the aim to select most critical zones. For this, tensile tests on subsized specimens and fracture mechanics tests on real weld and weld thermal simulated microstructures were conducted.
