Abstract
This invention relates to a dielectric motor with a rotor surrounded by one or more electrodes and an opening in its interior accommodating one or more electrodes around which the rotor can move. Possible fields of application include micro- electronics and micromechnics. The main features of the invention are rotor control by the inner electrodes and/or control of the electrodes surrounding the rotor by electrical fields. The combination of different dielectric materials, with a corresponding rotor geometry in conjunction with this type of field excitation enables the rotor to run intermittently, discontinuously or evenly. The inner electrodes produce higher torque. The motor can be miniaturized to a size in the order of a few micron.
