Titel
Development in silicon sheet technologies
Abstract
With a growing market for solar cell materials high volume growth techniques may replace the current Czochralski and the casting technique for silicon which are limited by the cutting of ingots into sheets. Attempts to grow sheets or ribbons directly from the melt have now a ten-year history. This paper summarizes the current efforts in this area and tries to analyze the technical and economic issues, but since the basic ideas of the six techniques currently under development are very different, and since they are in very different stages of maturity, a direct comparison of their respective merits seems to be difficult.
