Our contribution deals with the automatic computation of the ventricle volume ratio of the human heart at the end-systolic and the end-diastolic phases based on echocardiographic image sequences. The proposed method includes the use of an application-specific designed median filter for noise reduction in echochardiographic images, the detection of the end-systolic and end-diastolic phases based on the analysis of motion vector fields, and the segmantation of the ventricle using a region growing method. The presented simulation results have been compared with manually obtained measurements of the ejection ratio.
