Abstract
DE 3724634 A UPAB: 19930923 The device contains electrodes (2) of optically transparent, e.g. 100 nm thick, material which are formed above the light-guide (1) and cover the adjacent regions. A metallic layer (3) is formed on top of this layer (2) to provide electrical contacts. This layer also covers the adjacent area. The substrate material is pref. LiNbO3, the transparent electrodes are pref. InSn-oxide (ITO). Au or Al are pref. metals for the contact layers (3) and pref. use Ti or Cr as an intermediate adhesion promoting layer. The device pref., consists of a multiple of structurally identical parts which can be connected together using wire-bonding. The devices are mfd. by separate masking of the layers (2, 3) and using lift-off techniques. They are pref. passivated (4). USE/ADVANTAGE - The use of transparent electrodes reduces the optical attenuation and gives the advantages of no drift by ionic condition, reduced bias-requirements and the possibility of symmetrical construction. The disadvantages of low conductivity are removed by using the metal layers which are kept away from the borders of the light-guide to reduce the optical attenuation. The devices are used for the mfr. of interferometers. 3/4
