Titel
Characterization of the phase equilibrium of the system trinitrotoluene/carbon dioxide
Abstract
The phase equil. of the system trinitrotoluene (TNT)-CO2 was studied. The concn. of TNT in CO2 at phase equil. was detd. at 150-500 bar and TNT concns. .ltoreq.5.2 wt.%. The temp. was varied from 30-120.degree.. TNT exhibits good soly. in compressed CO2. The equil. concn. of TNT dissolved in compressed CO2 increases linearly independent of the temp. up to a pressure of 240 bar. Above 240 bar, or at concns. >1.5 wt.%, the influence of the temp. on the phase equil. level can be detd. At high temps. the phase equil. concn. is up to two times larger at a given pressure. The results are important for designing the engineering operations required to process TNT in combination with supercrit. CO2 and for detg. the appropriate boundary conditions of such a process.
