Title
CARLOS-multi - a multiaxial fatigue loading standard for car wheel suspensions
Other Title
CARLOS-Multi - eine mehraxiale Standardlastfolge für PKW-Radaufhängungen
Abstract
In cooperation with staff of 14 European car maufactures, see Fig. 1 the so called "CARLOS-Load sequences" have been developed respectively are under development. Three CARLOS uniaxial sequences for the vertical, lateral and longitudinal forces acting at the tyre contact centre of a passenger car front axle were derived. This work was finished in 1990 and the CARLOS sequences are already used in the car industry and in institutes for a variety of different purposes when doing fatigue test with coupons or components. The so called "multiaxial CARLOS load sequence" which combines the different load directions so that a fatigue test with a full wheel suspension or parts of it is possible is well advanced in the development. After a general description of the aim of a standardized load sequence the steps in deriving a standard are explained. In the last part ot the paper the additional technics necessary for deriving "CARLOS Multi", the first multiaxial standard, will be described.
