Abstract
WO 200136963 A UPAB: 20010719 NOVELTY - Detecting heavy metals and/or organic xenobiotics, comprising incubating the test sample with a suspension culture of plant cells (A), and measuring oxidative burst, contents of oxidized and reduced glutathione, and activity of glutathione-S-transferase (GST), is new. USE - The method is a toxicity test, especially used to detect pollutants in process waters or soil leachates, particularly heavy metals, lead, cadmium or arsenic, or dinitrotoluenes. ADVANTAGE - The method provides reliable, sensitive, rapid (less than 24 hour) and standardizable detection of both organic and inorganic pollutants. By determining several parameters, the method can differentiate between pollutants of different types, e.g. heavy metals cause oxidative burst but organic pollutants do not, and the method may be qualitative or quantitative.
