Titel
A technometric model for evaluating the technological quality of the biodiagnostic industry in Israel in comparison to Germany, Japan and the United States
Abstract
The main study was conducted on Israel's biodiagnostic industry. A comprehensive field study generated technometric profiles for eight Israeli companies and 11 biodiagnostic products. For this purpose, a database was constructed at the S. Neaman Institute. Data for Germany and other countries, compiled at FhG-ISI, enabled a comparison of Israeli biodiagnostic products with those of other countries; detailed technometric profiles for Israel vs. Gemany, Japan and the U.S. were obtained. This study revealed that Israel is highly advanced in diagnostic kits and has products that equal or even surpass those of other nations; but in this, as in many other areas of Israeli industry, problems in sales, marketing and distribution in distant foreign markets are hampering efforts competitive technological advantage into substantial market shares and export dollars. Further objectives of the paper is to evaluate the applicability of technometrics in less-developed countries and to expand the techn ometric approach, to serve not only as a tool for shaping and evaluating public policy, at the macro or sectoral level, but also as a managerial tool for determining technology and marketing strategy at the single firm level.
