Within this research work the fatigue behaviour of differently manufactured Alsub2Osub3ceramics and random samples of Sisub3Nsub4-ceramics were investigated. The tests were carried out under room temperature, 800 and 1200 degree C using unnotched and notched specimens under different mean stresses. The existence of an endurance limit for these materials could be proved. The fatigue tests were accompanied also by some quasi-static tensile bending and compressive tests. Basing on the results, a concept to dimension ceramic components for high-cycle fatigue applications is proposed.
