Titel
Review of Existing Multimedia- and VR-Environments
Abstract
In the course of globalisation and internationalisation, more and more multinational companies are making use of the new WWW technologies (World Wide Web), demanding high levels of security and performance and, to an ever larger extent, integration of multimedia, video and VR (Virtual Reality) features into their WWW-based Intranet context. This report provides an overview of state-of-the-art multimedia, video and VR tools and technologies that are suited for being employed within a WWW-based Intranet system. This includes software for displaying audio, video, and image data, as well as 3D models and computer-generated animations in the WWW context, i.e. inside a WWW browser. The focus is on the platforms that are supported within the WWW, i.e. UNIX (Solaris/IRIX) and PC (Windows95/WindowsNT). This review has been created as part of the WIRE project.
