Titel
A framework for controlling automatic fault isolation guided by integrating local strategy preferences
Alternative
Ein Rahmensystem zur Navigation der automatischen Fehlerisolierung unter Berücksichtigung der Integration lokaler Strategiepräferenzen
Abstract
In view of the ever growing complexity of the devices and systems characterizing today's daily routine, automatic fault isolation gains ever more (economic) attractivity. Starting about twenty years ago, by now the state of the art has reached a certain degree of maturity. A remarkable variety of methods are available. Nevertheless, no single of these methods is powerful enough to cover the whole scope of a real world diagnosis problem. To that end different methods have to be combined. Combining different methods requires combining control strategies. Combining local strategies, however, cannot be solved by a general method. Hence, a main obstacle for building large diagnosis systems remains the lack of a framework for controlling the decision when to use which method. The thesis presents such a framework. Besides the generic framework, the thesis describes a particular instance, Magellan. Magellan is used to demonstrate how the control operator works at hand of two fault scenarios in different application contexts . Finally we show how our control framework facilitates stepping beyond the scope of conventional model-based diagnosis. We describe an extension of Magellan, HiDE and Seek, in order to account for the diagnosis of hidden interactions as well (on the basis of our control framework such an extension is strikingly easy.)
