Within the Fraunhofer-Institute of Ceramic Technologies and Sintered Materials ceramic for electronic devices, as sensors, actuators, energy converters and passive components are developed and investigated for application. The synthesis of conducting oxides, dielectrics, ferroelectrics, piezoelectrics and electrostrictive materials is based on complex perovskites, pyrochlores, glasses and composites. Special emphasis is given to pastes for conductors and resistors, to PZT and PMN. The functional ceramics are fabricated as compact material, foil, thin film (smaller than 1 mym), thick film (thicker than 10 mym)and are tailored for specific application. Integration into complex technical systems is increasingly required. Therefore material and technology compatibility must be achieved besides the development of special material properties. High experience for the development of thick film pastes is available, including pastes for the assembly and interconnection technology within microsys tem technology (resistors, conductors, dielectrics), sensor pastes (temperature, force, humidity, magnetic field), functional pastes for the fuel cell, for batteries, solar cell and catalysts.
