Conformance testing services at the computer graphics interface (CGI)
Title Supplement
Summary report on specifications of test tools and utilities
Abstract
It is expected that immediate developments in the CGI testing process will be in the direction of visual checking of output by a human tester. This report therefore seeks to cover both the design of the required test software and the design of the user interface - the interaction between the tester and validation software - for the checking process. Section 2 considers the aims and difficulties of visual testing. Further design features and the scope of the tests are addressed in section 3. A key element of the testing process is the document associated with each test, and a specification of this is given in section 4. Section 5 moves on to the user inerface and describes the underlying model for the test process. The user interface process has three tasks: (i) to handle interaction with the tester; (ii) to access the test documents, so as to present information to the tester; (iii) to pass information to the automatic report generator, concerning the tester's assessment of we ther a t est has been passed or failed. Section 6 defines the user interface for these three tasks and section 7 contains examples of various features.
