The William M.Murray lecture. Experimental fracture analysis - examples of work at IWM, Freiburg
Abstract
The quantitative correlation of fracture appearance and surface morphology to loading conditions and the resulting consequences for manufacturing processes such as failure assessment are considered. The control of fracture processes for practical use is discussed for two cases: the portioning of glass rods and the abrasion of glass surfaces. The usefulness of the shadow-optical method for the experimental analysis of an impact test is demonstrated.
